Yup, Still Down
I've added a poll (see right) asking about your preferences with different content hosting avenues. I'm leaning towards MediaFire for a short term way of getting the books out but I still don't know if it would be good in the long-term. Torrent, while an option, would be severely limited by my internet connection and it would take quite a while for the books to get out, especially when I try to post a few per week.
Also, I can't find a simple way to set up a donation system here other than PayPal. If anyone knows any other services let me know.

In order of preference: dedicated, mediafire
Hope you can find a way out soon!
readers will help making mirrors.
What if you mix both methods? Like you host the original on mediafire and set up a tracker for those that downloaded through mediafire to seed?
That would solve you upload speed problem and even if the server were to cease function there would be other means to download the files until a replacement was found.
I agree with RGP. If people work together and make the files available through other means, such as mirrors, then if 1 site goes down, there should technically be another mirror available.
That's a good idea.
I got a message on Twitter about another option, setting up some bots on an IRC channel. I'm not sure the work involved, or the ease of access, but a lot of folks exchange files via that method.
4shared isn't a bad choice either for hosting. Good luck, sorry for your troubles.
Some people don't understand "IRC channels" so it's a viable option.
Torrents and/or filehost mirrors are the way to go.
Oops. Correction:
Some people don't understand "IRC channels" so it's not a viable option.
people work together +1
Let ppl upload the books they have downloaded to different sites, and post the mirror links on the blog. You'd better post the file-check information (SHA1 CRC MD5...) on the blog.
dedicated hosting is comfortable but also costs money.
torrents have the downside of needing people to seed their stuff after downloading. im not so sure thats the best premise for archiving/making available of hard-to-get niche interest stuff
filehosters might be the best solution for now, although id not be averse to irc.
if you go with filehosters, make sure you use something like multiupload or mirrorcreator, to simultaneously upload at multiple services. its good for reliability, speed (different hosters/multiple files = no waiting periods between downloads), and also good if people bought premiums for one particular hoster.
Not sure about mediafire... It's pretty convenient at the moment, but I'm starting to suspect that it will have problems such as Megaupload.. @_@ not sure.. I heard DropBox was pretty good? Might want to look into that one if you haven't already.
Oh yeah 4shared! That is another good one!
No to IRC. I don't even understand it.
Filehosting with mirrors and/or torrents are the way to go.

Yeah about 4shared... I've been reading how they've been cracking down more lately, so my original suggestion to go with them might not be such a hot idea. Just recently a file of mine was flagged for 'abuse' and had to be deleted.
As for torrents, I would advise against them. Too much exposure for people downloading content and the downloads never last because of the need to constantly 'seed'.
Agreed with the above poster! Torrents are annoying..
